BoingBoing is always worth a look; in fact it's so much worth a look that it's often difficult to decide what to tell people about. Yesterday had (among other things) a bit of black comedy, a bit of stylish camerawork, and a bit of something nasty.

The black comedy was The Case of The Rare Bird Made Rarer: an incident that would be dropped from a comedy show as "too improbable". Unusual foreign blow-in encounters peckish local sparrowhawk and becomes two gulps and a swallow in full view of an audience of birdwatchers.

The stylish camerawork is a remarkable series of souvenir superimpositions by Michael Hughes. It's both an entertainingly silly idea, and such a clever notion that I'm amazed no-one has thought of it before. Apparently there's a book project in the works; he should accept payment in air-fares...

The nasty – if it's not a joke, and yesterday wasn't April Fool's – is a site offering professional lies. It's probably a sign of the times, or that I’m getting old-fashioned since I hit 50, but I find the concept distasteful on so many levels. Time was, if you were going to cheat on someone, you at least needed the courage (and I presume the wit) to do it yourself. Now there's someone to help, for a fee. And as for the concept that lying and cheating might Not Be A Good Thing to start with, that doesn't get so much as a nod of dismissal.

How nice.

Sigh. If honesty's old-fashioned, you can find me in the nearest museum.
