I’ve heard of people taking on an unusual breed of dog/cat/combat hamster without identifying its fast-breeding gender, destructive personal habits or other interesting facets of what they were letting themselves in for.
Not bothering to find out enough about a potentialpet (sorry, status-conferring object) to recognise its order, never mind family, genus and species, is a new one on me…
There may be some way to finance WorldCon that I haven’t considered. :-)

The scam was only spotted after a leading Japanese actress said her 'poodle' didn't bark and refused to eat dog food. Poodles are famously used by the rich and glamorous on the Continent but are extremely rare in Japan, with many people having little idea what they look like.I checked the date of the article, and it is 26th April, not a rerun of 1st.
