Where do character names come from?
Jun. 17th, 2007 06:11 pmWell, all over the place, including the phonebook if I'm writing something contemporary; but just now, nosing through my favourite Internet timewaster, Wikipedia, I got a small surprise.
It seems that Commander Voord, from The Demon Lord was an unconscious lift from Dr Who, and not one of the more recent episodes, either. "The Voord" - a race, not a person - were the villains in The Keys of Marinus, way back in 1964, and since really early Dr Who episodes are seldom if ever repeated, that name must have been lurking in the back of my mind for twenty years.
I wonder what else is lurking there...?
